Hei Tiki Under Tākurua: The Gift of Galactic Femininity - Opening the Sirius (Star) Gateway

As winter wraps her quiet cloak around Aotearoa, a powerful cosmic moment begins to shimmer above our skies. On 4 July, Takurua — known globally as Sirius, the brightest star in our heavens and very visible in Te Waipounamu right now — rises once again, opening what is known across many cultures as the Sirius Gateway.

But for us, here in Te Waipounamu, this moment is deeply Māori. It is the return of Hinetākurua, the Winter Wife of Tama-nui-te-rā, the celestial guardian of deep dreaming, moonlight reflection, and feminine knowing. She rises on the eastern horizon just before the sun, holding court over the cold months and inviting us inward — to wānanga, to rest, to remember who we truly are beneath the noise.  Hinetākurua is cloaked in a korowai of moonlight, and teams up with He Marama in all of her phases.
