Sisters Collective Māori Hei Tiki
Hei Tiki are special carved pendants (wood, bone, stone) that are worn to symbolise ancestors, spiritual guardians and family lines. Hei Tiki are revered by Māori as special treasures. They are sacred treasures. They are unique. They are precious. They are protective. They are symbolic of the lineage of our ancestors. They are symbolic of our Polynesian ancestors who were way-showers, sea-navigators, great explorers, innovators and traders.
Sisters Collective Hei Tiki are made from non-traditional gemstones to symbolise our past, the fusing of innovation and embracing of new journeys. This is why we choose non-traditional, common and sustainable stone materials.
Sic have created two designs of the Hei Tiki pendant. One has the hole in the side of the arm which is traditional, the other has the hole in the head. The hole in the head of the Hei Tiki, is capped which alludes to the sacred transmission from the Crown Chakra. The “capping” aligns what is sacred in the Hei Tiki, and recognises the importance of the Head, as “tapu”, to Māori.
